Remarkably everything has gone to plan and Astrodon is up and live. 🥳

Over the next few hours and days I'll be monitoring the site to make sure it doesn't suddenly collapse under the weight of traffic as everyone returns to using the service.

I've learned a lot about cloud infrastructure this week (I haven't had to worry about managing it for the last ten years or so), and found some areas where Mastodon can be improved in terms of documentation and scaling (which I can now contribute to fixing).

More to come on this, but for now it's time to relax and remember to eat something.

Rebuilding Mastodon - back soon

Apologies for the last minute downtime. The missing media issue turns out to be a complex problem that needs a complete rebuild of the mastodon instance to force a reload of the offending javascript. Assuming all goes well we should be back in about 20 minutes.

Rebuilding home feeds

With the database restore complete, the last task is to rebuild the user home feeds. This should take a little under 2 hours before I can make the service live again.
